New Delhi: In a major stride towards women empowerment, the Lucknow City Railway Station has been transformed into North India’s first fully women-staffed station.

The station is now operated by a team of 34 women managing every aspect of its functioning—from ticketing, reservations to security, signalling, and cleanliness, said Indian Railways in a statement.

"Lucknow City Railway Station under North Eastern Railway Zone, has been transformed into North India’s first fully women staffed station — a shining symbol of progress, pride, and the unstoppable force of Nari Shakti, the statement said.

"This diverse team, hailing from across India, reflects the unity and strength of women in the workforce. It embodies the spirit of ‘Nari Shakti – Rashtra Shakti, " the statement added.

The Lucknow City station handles 14 pairs of express and mail trains including Gomtinagar-Mumbai, Gorakhpur-Hyderabad, Barauni-Mumbai, Varanasi City-Lucknow Junction, Farrukhabad-Chhapra, Gorakhpur-Pilibhit and Barauni-Lucknow.
