Kidnapped as a seven-year-old from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Raju, now 37 years old, finally returned home after over 30 years. Raju said he was kidnapped while he and his sister were on their way home from school all those years ago.
After he went missing on September 8,1993, his family, who were residents of Sahibabad, filed a report with the police but to no avail. The boy could not be traced and the case remained unsolved all this time.
He was taken to Rajasthan by the kidnappers and lived there ever since. He was made to work and beaten up regularly, Times Now reported. He was given only one roti at the end of the day. To prevent him from escaping he was kept tied up through the night.
Raju managed to escape his captors, and boarded a Delhi-bound truck. He remembered the city but could not recollect where he lived or the names of his parents.
Raju told the media that the daughter of the family, whose house he was held captive asked him to worship Lord Hanuman and encouraged him to escape, the report said.
On reaching Delhi, he sought help from many police stations but received no help but when he finally reached the Khoda police station in Ghaziabad five days ago, the cops there took care of him and helped him and spread the information about him on social media.
Raju’s uncle, upon recognising him, contacted the police and informed the family.
Raju told reporters, “I am feeling so good now, I thank the Lord Hanuman. For days I have prayed that he reunite me with my family.”
