Lucknow: Close on the heels of the alleged gang-rape of a woman by 22 people in Varanasi, a minor was allegedly gang-raped by eight people in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district, about 350 kilometres from here.
According to police sources, an FIR was lodged in this connection against ten people, including a local BJP leader, and eight of them have been arrested while a hunt was launched to nab the other two.
Police said that the 17-year old victim was sitting under a tree near the Hazara Canal with her fiancée, when around six persons reached there and tried to take the victim to a secluded place. They also assaulted the fiancée when he protested.
Police said that the alleged culprits called four more acquaintances. The victim was allegedly gang-raped after being taken to a secluded place. Her ear rings were snatched and her fiancée was forced to pay Rs five thousand. The accused persons also made a video of the act.
Though the incident happened around four days back, it came to light on Sunday when the victim narrated about it to her parents and they approached the Child Helpline, which in turn informed the cops.
Police said that the FIR was lodged against ten persons. One of the accused persons was a local BJP leader, Akhilesh Singh. Singh, however, claimed that he was not present at the scene and was out of station.
Barely a few days back, a 19 year old woman was kidnapped and allegedly gang-raped by 22 people over a period of six days at different places in the Varanasi town.
Prime minister Narendra Modi, who was the Lok Sabha member from the town, took cognizance of the matter and directed the police to ensure the strictest punishment. The police have nabbed 11 accused persons and a hunt was launched to nab the others.
