Lucknow: Faced with the daunting task of reviving her party in Uttar Pradesh, BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday called herself ‘Iron Lady’, who, during her stint as chief minister of the state, took steps to ensure progress of the weaker sections, and appealed to her supporters to get the ‘master key’ to power for social and political change.
Mayawati, who paid tributes to the BSP founder Kanshi Ram on his 91st birth anniversary on Saturday, exhorted the Dalits and other weaker sections of the society to further strengthen the movement launched by Kanshiram for social change.
‘’The Bahujan Samaj must understand the power of their votes and should strive for the key to the power.......this change is necessary for them,’’ the BSP supremo said in a post on her social media handle ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
Mayawati said that the BSP, during its regime, ensured all round development of the weaker sections of the society.
‘’The vast population of UP has seen how the BSP, under the leadership of the Iron Lady, did what it promised....we ensured progress of the Bahujan samaj while the other parties only made hollow promises,’’ she said.
The BSP supremo had, a few days back, expelled her nephew Akash Anand, who she had once declared her ‘heir’, accusing him of working under the influence of his father-in-law and former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth, who was expelled earlier by her.
BSP has found itself pushed to the fringe in the electorally important state of UP and has only one MLA in the state assembly. It failed to win even a single seat in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
