Lucknow: Famous Mathura based seer and ‘katha vachak’ (narrator of Hindu religious texts) Aniruddhacharya, who is popularly known as 'Pookie Baba', triggered a huge controversy after he allegedly made a 'sexist' comment on women before a religious gathering.
The Mathura Bar Association took strong exception to the remarks and a delegation of the lawyers met the district police chief and demanded registration of a case against the narrator.
The controversy erupted after a video purportedly containing the alleged ‘sexist ‘ remarks of the seer went viral on social media platforms.
The women lawyers from the district also decried the remarks and staged a demonstration seeking stern action against him. ‘’Such derogatory and sexist remarks are not expected from a religious personality... it shows his rotten mentality,’’ said a participant.
The women lawyers carried placards and banners with slogans like ‘stop humiliating the women’ and 'Aniruddhacharya tender apology’.
They threatened to intensify their agitation if the narrator was not acted against.
Aniruddhacharya, who has millions of followers, allegedly cast aspersions on the character of the women during the discourse.
The priest-narrator allegedly said that in the old times, the girls used to get married at the age of 14 and get settled. But now they get married at the age of 25 and by that time they already establish physical relationship three-four times.
Aniruddhacharya was known for delivering religious discourses and was founder of Gau Gopal Ashram in Vrindavan.
