An under-construction road was dug up allegedly by the 'representative' of an MLA in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, after the contractor refused to pay five per cent commission as demanded by the rep.
A probe was ordered into the incident and directives were issued to realise the cost of the damage done to the road from the accused.
According to the sources, a section of the Puwayan-Dataganj State Highway, which was being widened, was dug up with the help of JCB by one Jagveer Singh, who claimed to be the representative of the local BJP MLA, and his goons a few days back.
An FIR in this connection was lodged by the contractor, identified as Ramesh Singh against Jagveer and some others, according to the police sources on Thursday.
In his FIR, Ramesh Singh said that Jagveer and his goons had been threatening the workers and engineers for the past few days and had also assaulted them on several occasions.
He said that Jagveer and his goons, who carried arms, assaulted the workers and after the latter left, damaged the equipment and dug up around three hundred metres of the road with the help of JCB.
BJP MLA Veer Vikram Singh, whose alleged representative was accused of digging the road, refuted the allegations and said that Jagveer was not his representative. He accused the contractor of damaging the road himself to pocket the insurance money.
