The AMU officials, however, said that the mention of the ‘beef biryani’ was a ‘typing’ error and that action would be taken against the responsible persons.

The controversy erupted after the lunch menu notice said that the Sunday lunch menu had been modified on ‘popular demand’ and instead of chicken biryani, ‘beef biryani’ would be served.

‘’This change is in response to the numerous requests from  our resident members ... .we hope you enjoy the new addition to our menu,’’ the notice said further.

The Hindu students lodged a complaint with the AMU administration after the notice went viral on social media platforms. ‘’It’s a deliberate attempt to hurt our religious sentiments,’’ said a Hindu resident member.

An AMU official said that there was no change in the menu and that the mention of th ‘beef biryani’ was a ‘tying’ error.

According to the sources, the AMU administration has issued notices to two senior students, who were allegedly responsible for issuing the notice and they have been removed from their positions. ‘’The matter is being investigated,’’ the official added.

Sources said that an FIR was also registered against the duo, identified as Mohammed Faizullah and Mujassim Ahmed Bhati in this connection.
