Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Minister Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh's remark that whoever wants to live in India will have to chant 'Radhe-Radhe' has triggered a controversy with the opposition parties accusing the BJP of trying to vitiate the social environment in the country.
''Hindustan mein rehna hai to Radhe-Radhe kahna hai'' (you will have to chant Radhe-Radhe if you want to live in India), UP Minister of State, Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh said at a religious event in the state's Amethi district.
Singh, who was an MLA from Tiloi assembly seat in the district, made this remarks at the event held at Ram Katha Park. The minister made the audience say this three times from the stage.
The minister's controversial remarks came to light after a video purportedly containing the same went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday.
The opposition parties slammed the BJP lawmaker and accused the saffron of of trying to disturb communal harmony in the state and country. ''BJP wants to disturb communal peace and amity....the minister must be acted against...he should be sacked,'' said a senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader here.
Earlier BJP legislator from Ghaziabad's Loni seat Nand Kishore Gurjar had also made controversial remarks. Gujar, a barely a few days back, asked the Hindus not to visit the 'dargah' (tombs of Sufi saints) and pay respect there.
''Don't go to the dargah as jehadis are buried there.....they had committed atrocities on Hindu women,'' Gurjar had said.
