Almost a month after a teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar was caught on camera asking students to slap their Muslim classmates, another teacher at a school in Sambhal district allegedly got a Muslim student to slap his Hindu classmate for not being able to answer a question.
The teacher was arrested on Thursday after a case was filed in the matter at the district’s Asmoli police station in light of a complaint filed by the Hindu student’s father.
Police sources said the victim, a resident of Siroli village, was a student at a private school in Dugawar village. On Wednesday, one of the lady teachers got a Muslim student to slap him repeatedly as she was angry after he was not able to answer a question.
“The Muslim student is not at fault... The teacher is guilty... My son did not go to school today,” the father said on Thursday.
“A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated,” the official said.
Barely a few days ago a video had gone viral purportedly showing a teacher asking the students to slap an eight-year-old Muslim student. The students were seen taking turns to slap the Muslim student as the teacher watched.
The act sparked widespread outrage, with Opposition harshly criticising it and attributing it to attempts to create a poisonous climate in the country, apparently referring to the BJP.
