Lucknow: An FIR was registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) Lok Sabha member Afzal Ansari for his reported ‘objectionable’ remarks on the Maha Kumbh.
Ansari, a Lok Sabha member from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, while speaking at an event, had said that ‘’It appears that the heavens will be house-full and no one will be left in the hell’’, referring to the claims by the state government that around 50 crore devotees had taken holy dip at the ‘sangam’.
According to the Hindu mythology, whosoever, takes holy dip in the sangam waters, will get a place in heaven and his sins will be washed away.
‘’Lagta hai swarg house-full ho jayega...nark mein ko bachega hi nahin,’’ (It seems the heavens will be house-full and there will no one in the hell), Ansari reportedly said at the event, organised on the occasion of Dalit saint Ravidas birth anniversary, in Ghazipur.
Ansari also reportedly criticised the state government over alleged ‘mismanagement’ in the Maha Kumbh. ‘’People are breaking windows of trains... scared women and children shiver inside the coaches... so many people died in the stampede but the state government is not giving the details,’’ he was quoted as having said at the event.
Police officials in Ghazipur said that an FIR was registered against Ansari at Shadiabad police station in Ghazipur charging him with hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
