Lucknow: Facing flak from the opposition leaders over alleged ‘mismanagement’ in the ongoing Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday claimed that world’s biggest religious event would contribute Rs three lakh crore to the economy of the state.
Speaking at a function here, Adityanath also said that the Maha Kumbh was a symbol of respect to the "sentiments of the people, which had been suppressed for years’’.
‘’Those, who criticise us saying that Rs 5000-6000 crore was spent on organizing the Maha Kumbh should know that it is going to hugely benefit to the state. It will contribute Rs 3 lakh crore to the economy of the state,’’ he said.
The chief minister said that only Rs 1500 crore were spent on Maha Kumbh.
‘’The rest of the money was spent on beautification of Prayagraj and developing its infrastructure,’’ he went on to add.
‘’Spending Rs 1500 crore and earning Rs three lakh crore. This Maha Kumbh will also contribute to the economy of the country. It will also encourage business and tourism,’’ he said.
Adityanath said that so far around 50 crore devotees have taken holy dip at the sangam.
The chief minister’s remarks came after criticism by the opposition parties over alleged ‘mismanagement’ at the Maha Kumbh, which witnessed a massive traffic jams after the bathing on Maghi Purnima on Wednesday in which thousands of people were stuck on the roads for several hours without food and water.
