Lucknow: As many as ten thousand women cops have been deployed along the Kanwar Yatra routes in Uttar Pradesh to ensure safety of the women kanwariyas, who are taking part in the annual pilgrimage during the Hindu month of ‘Shravana’ in large numbers this time.

According to the officials here, over 800 women constables and around 1500 women sub-inspectors were deployed along the Kanwar Yatra routes in the state.

Sources said that around six crore devotees, including those from the other parts of the country, were expected to take part in the Kanwar Yatra in the state. Of these there were around 60 to 70 lakh women kanwariyas.

The officials said that keeping in view the large number of women kanwariyas, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to implement a women centric safety model and deploy women cops on the help desks.

The officials said that the inclusion of women cops in the Quick Response Teams (QRT) has been made mandatory. Directives have been issued to enhance patrolling by the QRT on the Kanwar yatra routes.

Sources said that more than 10 help desks have been set up for the women devotees. Elaborate security arrangements were made in the Meerut zone.

The UP government has made elaborate security arrangements this time for the Kanwar Yatra. Around 30 thousand CCTV cameras were installed and 395 hi-tech drones were pressed into service for surveillance on the Yatra routes.

Besides, hi-tech drones, including tethered drones, which could remain in the air for a longer duration, have been deployed for surveillance.
