Lucknow: A dalit woman was hacked to death and her daughter was abducted allegedly by a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district.
According to the police sources, the accused, identified as Paras Som, attacked the woman after she resisted his attempts to abduct her daughter while the two had gone to the fields in Kapsad village in the district on Thursday.
Paras, who worked as a compounder at a clinic and was accompanied by his friends, hit the woman with a sharp edged object inflicting serious injuries. As she fell on the ground, he bundled her daughter into a vehicle and fled from there.
The woman was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a little later.
Enrage residents of the village damaged an ambulance and refused to cremate the body demanding arrest of the accused.
Tension prevailed in the village after workers of the Azad Samaj Party, a predominantly dalit outfit, reached there and raised slogans against the administration. A large contingent of police force was deployed at the village to maintain peace.
Entry of the political leaders into the village was banned, sources said.
A senior police official said in Meerut that several teams had been formed to nab the culprits and trace the girl.
Some reports said that the main accused Paras Som and the girl had been having an affair for some time and a panchayat was also held in the village after they were caught together a few months back.
The opposition parties slammed the government over the incident and said that it showed that the women were not safe in the state.
