Lucknow: Close on the heels of an Odisha student dying by suicide following alleged attempts of sexual exploitation by her teacher, a student of a private University in Greater Noida ended her life, alleging "harassment" by her teachers.
The student of Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) at Sharda University was found unresponsive in her room in the campus' girls’ hostel on Friday. She left behind a suicide note in which she blamed two teachers by name from her department for her death.
"The two teachers tortured me mentally, humiliated me… I have been in depression for a long time owing to the humiliation… I want them to undergo the same agony… I can’t live any longer," she allegedly said in the suicide note.
The police have taken the teachers into custody and are questioning them. Police sources said the two teachers had been suspended, and the varsity had set up a high-level committee to probe the matter.
The varsity management met the student's parents on Saturday and sought five days to act on the matter, sources said.
The victim's mother said the teachers had threatened to fail her in examinations. Police officials said a case had been lodged in this connection, and the matter was being investigated.
Enraged over the incident, the students of the varsity staged a demonstration on campus, demanding stern action against those responsible for the tragedy.
