Lucknow: The adage 'beggars can’t be choosers' may have a different connotation but in an Uttar Pradesh district, a beggar literally proved that they can have choices too.
In a bizarre incident, a woman, a mother of six children, reportedly eloped with a beggar in UP’s Hardoi district.
The husband of the woman, a resident of Lamkan village, has lodged a report with the police alleging that she has eloped with a beggar, identified as Nanhe Pandit.
Reports said that Nanhe Pandit, a resident Sandi area in the district, who made two ends meet by begging in the villages, used to go to the house of the woman seeking alms. The woman would often give him some food or grains.
The 36-year old woman was often seen talking with Pandit for long hours but little did they apprehend that the two could fall in love with each other.
The husband of the woman said that his wife left for the market at Sandi in the district to buy eatables and other things a couple of days back but never returned home. He said that he came to know later on that she had eloped with Pandit.
He also alleged in his complaint with the police that his wife had taken money and valuables with her. He said that he had sold his cow a few days back and had kept the money to buy a piece of land.
Police said that a case was lodged in this regard and a hunt was launched to trace the beggar.
