Lucknow: Taking strong exception to the decision of the Supreme Court Collegium to transfer Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwanat Verma from whose official residence a huge pile of cash was allegedly recovered recently, the Allahabad Bar Association said that the Allahabad High Court was not a ‘trash bin’.
"We are not a trash bin where accused of corruption are sent to dispense justice," the Association said in a letter to CJI Sanjiv Khanna.
The Association, which also adopted a resolution in this regard, said that Justice Yashwant Verma should be kept away from judicial works until completion of investigation against him and that he should not be transferred to the Allahabad HC.
The Association has also convened a general body meeting to discuss the matter on Monday.
The Association, in its letter, said that it had come to know through media reports that Justice Verma was being transferred to Allahabad HC after alleged recovery of a large amount of cash from his residence.
The letter said that people’s faith in justice would be lessened if those effacing allegations of corruption would be delivering justice in the High Court.
A fire had broken out at Justice Verma’s official residence a few days back after which his family members called emergency services. The police had also visited his residence then after a large amount of cash was allegedly found in one of the rooms.
