Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh: A 63-year-old childless widow was killed allegedly by her nephews over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi, police said on Monday.
The victim, Savitri Devi, a resident of the Mohiuddinpur village and the wife of late Man Singh Yadav, was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by her nephews — Ram Prakash alias Nanhe and Om Prakash alias Babli -- sons of her deceased brother-in-law Amar Singh on Sunday night.
The accused allegedly struck her on the face with sharp-edged weapons, killing her on the spot.
The alleged incident occurred over a dispute related to agricultural land, police said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh said that Savitri Devi was childless and had earlier transferred some part of her land to Ram Prakash and Om Prakash.
However, she still owned about three bighas of land, which the nephews allegedly wanted to get registered in their names as well.
“Savitri Devi was unwilling to give the remaining land, and this refusal appears to have led to the brutal attack,” the officer said.
“The two accused are absconding and police teams are conducting raids to arrest them,” he added.
The body has been sent for postmortem and a detailed probe is on in the matter, police said.
