According to the reports, the shocking incident happened at Barahupur village in the district late on Thursday night.

Reports said that the incident happened at the marriage of Khushboo Maurya with Suneel Kumar Maurya, a resident of the neighbouring Pratapgarh district.

It all started during the ‘jaimal’ (a ritual during which the bride and groom garland each other), when Kamal Kumar, who was part of the wedding party, turned the pedestal fan towards him and his friends, apparently to enjoy more air comfort.

A few others, who were from Barahupur village, took strong exception to the act and soon arguments turned into a fistfight between the two groups. It virtually turned into a fight between the ‘baratis’ (wedding guests) and the host.

During the fight, someone hit Kamal with a stone inflicting serious injuries. Kamal and his other friends, who were also injured in the fight, were rushed to the hospital where Kamal succumbed to his injuries later, the police said.

Tension prevailed in the village after the incident and the wedding ceremony was completed in the presence of the police.

Police said that a case was registered against three persons and investigations were on.
