We were undertaking rescue operation in the big tunnel to remove debris till yesterday. We have also started drilling in a smaller diameter tunnel to see what is inside. But it has been suspended temporarily as the machine broke down: Ashok Kumar, DGP Uttarakhand

Breach of sub-glacial lake may have caused Uttarakhand floods

The Uttarakhand killer flood may have started with a massive ice avalanche triggering a landslide downstream and release of 1.6 million cubic metres of water stored in a subglacial lake, according to the scientists.
