Chamoli glacier burst: Death toll mounts to 54

JUST IN | "Three bodies were retrieved today from the Tapovan tunnel, taking the body count to 54 so far. Cases of 179 missing people have been registered at Joshimath Police Station till now," Chamoli Police informed.

The body of a missing foreman from Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir has been recovered from the flash flood-hit Joshimath area in Uttarakhand, officials said on Sunday.

U’khand flash floods: High turbidity likely to affect water supply in parts of Delhi, says DJB

Flash floods in Uttarakhand's Chamoli have increased turbidity of raw water fetched by Delhi from Upper Ganga Canal to "unprecedented levels" which is likely to hit water supply in many parts of the national capital, DJB vice-chairman Raghav Chadha said on Sunday.

In a series of tweets, Chadha said the Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi water treatment plants were functioning at reduced capacity. He said the supply is likely to be affected in south, east and northeast Delhi and urged people to use water judiciously. (PTI)

Director general of BRO reviews rescue and relief works in Joshimath

Director General of Border Roads Organisation Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry on Saturday reviewed rescue and rehabilitation works in Uttarakhand's Joshimath which witnessed a massive flood following a glacial burst nearly a week back.

Multi-agency operations are continuing in the area to rescue over 30 people trapped inside a tunnel at the site of flood-ravaged Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project. (PTI)
