Uttarakhand: Fresh cracks appears on Badrinath Highway passing through Joshimath

Joshimath's land subsidence has caused the Badrinath National Highway, which runs through Joshimath, to develop cracks that are one to three metres long. The residents are now afraid because of these cracks in the highway. Up until this point, 181 buildings in the town have been designated as dangerous, and 275 families have been relocated to safer areas.

While speaking to ANI, HimanshuKhurana, DM, Chamoli said, "we came to know about the cracks on the Badrinath national highway. CBRI teams have been deployed which reported that, the cracks developed are due to the local road settlement, placement and alignment."

He also spoke about the weather in the region as Joshimath will be facing heavy rain and snowfall on January 25 and 26.

"Relief camps have been setup at various locations and the locals are provided with all the necessities like food, water, shelter, bonfires etc Machines and equipment have been deployed to remove the snow from the roads to maintain smooth commuting. "
