The Kashmir Valley continued to reel under intense cold as Srinagar city recorded season’s first sub-zero night temperature on Monday night.

According to local MeT department, minimum temperature in Srinagar went below freezing point for the first time this season, with the mercury settling at minus 0.7 degree Celsius, while the South Kashmir tourist resort of Pahalgam was the coldest place in the Valley with minimum temperature of minus four degrees Celsius, two degrees down from the previous night.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the same temperature as previous with the mercury seetling at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. According to MeT department minimum temperatures in Kokernag hill station was minus 0.4 degree Celsius, Kupwara minus 1.4 degree Celsius and in entry town of Kashmir Valley, Qazigund minus 0.8 degree Celsius.

A Met department official said night temperatures throughout the valley fell below the freezing point for the first time this season.
