Mumbai: India's oldest living actor, Kamini Kaushal, one of the icons of Hindi cinema, passed away in Mumbai on Friday.
Her iconic films include Neecha Nagar (1946) and Biraj Bahu (1954).
She was 98.
With her talent and grace, she has left a mark in Hindi cinema.
Born in Lahore on 24 February, 1927, she did her BA (Honours) in English literature from Government College, Lahore.
Legendary filmmaker Chetan Anand gave her a break in Neecha Nagar.
From 1937-40, she worked as a radio child artist as Uma.
From 1946-63, Kamini played the lead heroine in several films like Do Bhai (1947), Shaheed (1948), Nadiya ke Paar (1948), Ziddi (1948), Shabnam (1949), Arzoo (1950), Jailor (1958), Godaan (1963).
Thereafter, she essayed several roles in Do Raaste (1969), Prem Nagar (1964), Anhonee (1974), Upkar (1967), Purab aur Paschim (1970), Shor (1972), Roti Kapda aur Makaan (1974).
Her latest films include Chennai Express (2013), Kabir Singh (2019) and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022).
