Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded scrapping of the Ministry of Minorities as well as the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).

‘‘VHP has passed a resolution to this effect at its two-day central governing council meet held at Vadtal town in Kheda district on last Saturday and Sunday,’’ Surendra Jain, joint general secretary (VHP international), told mediapersons in Ahmedabad on Monday.

The demand came in wake of NCM’s move to start a helpline for Muslims. NCM chairman Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi had in his recent statement said that in case of atrocities committed against Muslims, they could give a call on the helpline number.

According to the VHP leader such a move would only strengthen feelings of separatism among minorities in the country. The announcement of starting a helpline would give a message that atrocities against minorities had reached such a proportion that the extreme step of launching a helpline had to be taken.

Jain further said that the minorities should know that Jihadi people and missionaries were behind the attack on other minorities, including that of Buddhists and Sikhs. The move clearly indicates intention of NCM to encourage separatism as already competent authority – human rights commission and there was no need to create parallel authority in the name of religion, he added.

Terming cow-protectors (gau-rakshaks) as "respected nationals", he alleged that their image was being tarnished deliberately as part of a well-planned conspiracy. "Cow protectors are not goons, they in fact followers of law,” he said adding that like Gujarat, the central government should bring a national law to ban cow slaughter.
