The entire Vidarbha region of Maharashtra continued to be in the grip of intense heat on Thursday.
The highest temperature was recorded in Chandrapur, where mercury continued to hover around 46 degrees Celsius.
Nagpur, Akola, Wardha and Brahmapuri recorded a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius each, while Yavatmal and Amravati recorded 44 degree Celsius.
Nanded and Parbhani in Marathwada region recorded 45 degrees Celsius each.
According to the Regional Meteorological Observatory of the IMD, the maximum temperature recorded in Mumbai was 34 degrees Celsius.
According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, the country now needs to gear up for some intense heat in the coming days.
"Parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada and Telangana are prone to heatwave conditions during this season. Furthermore, as we progress in May, the heatwave also tends to increase its ambit and cover most parts of these states. Heatwave conditions are declared when the maximum temperature of the city is or above 40 degre Celsius and the departure from normal is by 5–6 degree Celsius," according to Skymet Weather.
