Sources in BSF said a suspected drone was recovered near the border in South Assam's Sribhumi district while several infiltrators were caught along the border in Assam and neighbouring Meghalaya since Tuesday.

"The surveillance has been enhanced along the border as there is a growing pro-Pakistan sentiment in Bangladesh and elements inimical to India may try to cause harm by using the unfenced stretches of the border," said the source.

West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram shares 4,096km border with Bangladesh and some stretches have still remained unfenced aiding the infiltrators and cross border smugglers.

Security officials said infiltration attempts from Bangladesh increased following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina government in July last year. Many Bangladeshis were caught while illegally crossing the border and were pushed back by the forces.

The BSF source said surveillance along the border has been enhanced in order to prevent any attempt by anti-India elements from Bangladesh to carry out any untoward incident.

Many in the Northeast fears that Pakistan or the terror organisations may use Bangladesh territory as the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus was incresingly getting closer to Pakistan. The fear deepened after police in Assam's Sribhumi district recovered a suspicious drone on Wenesday. The place is barely 50km from the Kushiyara river that separates India and Bangladesh.
