A Muslim man from Haryana beaten up by alleged cow vigilantes in Rajasthan's Alwar district succumbed to injuries on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Pehlu Khan.

Khan and other five people were beaten up by gau rakshaks alleging that they were illegally transporting cows. The incident took place on National Highway 8 on April 1.

According to media reports, Pehlu Khan and others were attacked even after they produced documents to show they had bought the cows from a livestock fair in Jaipur.

The attackers have been identified as cow vigilantes associated with the VHP and the Bajrang Dal.

"Police have registered case against cow smuggling and also over death of the man" said Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria.
