Kolkata: A Lok Sabha member of the Bharatiya Janata Party lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police, accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of posting fabricated and communally provocative content on social media about the harassment of the family of a Bengali-speaking migrant worker from the state in the National Capital Territory.

Soumendu Adhikari, a BJP MP from West Bengal, urged the Delhi Police to register an FIR against the Trinamool Congress supremo under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act. He lodged the complaint against Mamata after the Delhi Police called a video, which was shared by the West Bengal chief minister on social media, "fabricated" and "politically motivated". Mamata had alleged that a woman from West Bengal and her child had been assaulted in the national capital for speaking in their mother language, Bangla, in Delhi.

Adhikari alleged that Mamata had shared false information with the intent to defame the city police and disturb public order.

The TMC supremo on Tuesday alleged that a Bengali-speaking woman and her child had also been "threatened". “They (the woman and her child) were taken to various police stations, just as I had predicted yesterday. They were threatened. We want them to come back, and whoever is speaking the truth and who is lying will be proved eventually,” she said, criticising the Delhi Police for trying to dismiss her allegation.

After the West Bengal chief minister took to X to allege that the woman and her child had been brutally assaulted by Delhi Police personnel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) of the National Capital Territory, Abhishek Dhania, said that the woman had admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district in West Bengal, had asked her to make the video.
