The Trinamool Congress (TMC) came down heavily on BJP leader and senior actor Mithun Chakraborty for his recent remarks on Hindus.

The ruling party in West Bengal accused Chakraborty of having links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who, according to the TMC, had sponsored his films.

"He speaks about Hindus? Has he forgotten that Dawood Ibrahim was his sponsor? Everyone knows that several of his films were funded by Dawood. And now, he comes to Bengal and talks about saving Hindus," India Today quoted Trinamool General Secretary Jay Prakash Majumdar as saying.

"Mithun Chakraborty has links with Dawood Ibrahim. His films and shows were sponsored by him," the TMC leader added.

Chakraborty had recently said that Hindus in the state would not survive if the BJP fails to form government in West Bengal in the next election.

Earlier last year, two FIRs were lodged against Chakraborty for allegedly making provocative statements during a BJP event in Salt Lake area near Kolkata.

The complaints pertain to Chakraborty's speech on October 27 at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake, during a BJP programme attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Kolkata to launch the party's West Bengal membership drive.

The first FIR was filed at the Bidhannagar South police station based on a complaint by an individual, while the second was lodged at Bowbazar police station.
