Sahana Sadique would cross the border on a medical visa to marry young Indian men and then blackmail them, asking for money to withdraw the false charges filed against them. She filed the fake cases in the Rajarhat and New Town areas of Kolkata.

Sadique had crossed the border to enter India six times in the last four years.

Officials confirmed that none of the marriages were registered in official records.

The most recent marriage was in October 2024, and Sadique had visited the police on February 13, alleging that her husband had taken obscene photographs of her and was threatening to make them public, as per a Times of India report.

However, officials while registering her compliant, felt her face looked "familiar". "We ran a background check and found she lodged similar complaints in the past. We grilled her and found out that she was a con-woman," a senior officer told TOI.
