Hindus are reportedly fleeing from Dhulian, Murshidabad, after protests against the Waqf Act in West Bengal turned violent.

Several BJP leaders shared videos of people claiming to have been displaced due to the agitation, while decrying the law-and-order situation under the Mamata Banerjee government.

"More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad driven by fear of religiously driven bigots were forced to flee across the river & take shelter at Par Lalpur High School, Deonapur-Sovapur GP, Baisnabnagar, Malda," leader of the Opposition in the state, Suvendu Adhikari said.

The BJP leader continued to say that religious persecution in Bengal was 'real'.

"Appeasement politics of TMC has emboldened radical elements. Hindus are being hunted, our people are running for their lives in their own land! Shame on the State Govt for allowing this breakdown of law & order," he also said, adding, "I urge the Central Paramilitary Forces deployed in the District, the State Police and the district administration to ensure the safe return of these displaced Hindus & protect their lives from this jihadist terror."

"Bengal is burning. The social fabric is torn. Enough is enough," he concluded.

Amit Malviya, BJP's IT head also lamented the 'dire' situation in the state, saying "it scarcely resembles West Bengal—the ancestral homeland of Bengali Hindus. Hindu families—especially women and girls—are fleeing Dhulian in Shamsherganj by boat, seeking refuge in Parlalpur village of Baishnabnagar. What was once a quaint, picturesque region has now been transformed into a zone of bloodshed and fear, all in the wake of Mamata Banerjee’s unchecked and ruthless pursuit of power."

Meanwhile, BJP's Arjun Singh, the former Lok Sabha MP also shared a clip, saying "The Hindus have started fleeing from Dhuliyan, Murshidabad. The state administration under the rule of @MamataOfficial has failed miserably to protect the life and property of the Hindus there."

"In Bangladesh, the Hindus were attacked decades back and recently again, now the Jehadis have become active in our West Bengal and targeting the Hindus for fulfilling their agenda of ‘Greater Bangladesh’ but the Sanatanis of West Bengal will defeat them. The strength lies in the unity of Sanatanis. All are witnessing the role of the @WBPolice", he added.

DH was unable to independently verify these videos.

On Saturday, stating that it cannot keep its eyes closed when such situations come up, the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. The court said citizens must be provided with adequate security and protection to ensure peace and order in the region.

At least three people were killed in the clashes and more than 100 have been arrested in connection with the violence.

CM Mamata Banerjee has urged people to stop fighting, saying that the Act won't be implemented in Bengal -- which goes to polls next year.
