West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday made a surprise visit to the site where junior doctors were protesting and assured them that their demands would be addressed, asking them to come for talks, but the proposed meeting fell through with the protesters claiming that they were asked to leave "unceremoniously" after waiting for three hours at the gates of CM's residence. In a significant development, the CBI on Saturday slapped charges of tampering with evidence against former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh, currently in judicial custody in a corruption case, in the medic's rape-murder case, an official of the probe agency said. (PTI)

The CBI, which is probing the rape-murder case, on Saturday evening added charges of tampering with evidence against former R G Kar hospital principal Sandip Ghosh, who is currently in judicial custody and arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, on charges of misleading the investigation and altering the crime scene.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday said that Mamata Banerjee does not have right to stay in CM position.
"In the rule of Mamata Banerjee, a daughter was raped, what can be said about it? This happened under a woman Chief Minister, there can be no greater insult than this. Her government tried its best to stop the investigation...She does not have the right to stay in her position...," he said.
Sealdah ACJM has ordered a CBI custody (PC) till 17 September for Tala Police Station incharge Abhijit Mondal and RG Kar former principal Dr Sandip Ghosh in connection with RG Kar rape and murder case.
A ruling Trinamool Congress MLA on Sunday courted controversy by lashing out at the movement of doctors and people on the RG Kar issue, saying that "mere clapping and dancing to slogans accompanied by music beat will not lead to success".
Agitating doctors strongly opposed the remarks, saying it was a people's movement and should not be trivialised.
Rajarhat-New Town MLA Tapas Chatterjee, during a meeting in his locality, said, "Clapping and dancing to disco beats will not make any movement successful. A true movement is marked by more serious activities." (PTI)
