Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police arrested four people and seized arms and ammunition from their possession after intercepting their car near Kolkata on early Saturday, an officer said.
Acting on inputs about the movement of possible arms smugglers in Narayanpur, the sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the four when they were passing by the area, he said.
"Preliminary investigations reveal that they were coming from Bihar. We have seized one 7 mm pistol, two pipe guns and 12 7.65mm bullets and two 8mm bullets. All these items were made in Munger," the STF officer said.
The smugglers were scheduled to reach a house at Beraberi village of Narayanpur in New Town, he said.
"Our officers are questioning them and trying to find out the arms manufacturing unit. We are also trying to find out whether any interstate arms gang was involved or not," he said.
