This comes just about 6 months after the city of Kolkata, along with the entire nation was shaken to its core when a young, on-duty post-graduate trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Her disfigured and mutilated body was found in a seminar hall on the third floor of the hospital on August 9, 2024, that triggered mass outrage and protests not only in West Bengal, but also across the country.

According to a report by the Times of India, the deceased student, named Ivy Prasad, was a second-year MBBS student at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. She was reportedly staying at the Kamarhati ESI Hospital quarters, which is located in the outskirts of Kolkata, because her mother is currently employed as a doctor at the same hospital. Ivy's father, on the other hand, works as a senior bank employee in Mumbai.

"Despite repeated calls, there was no response from her. Eventually, her mother broke open the door," a senior police officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate told TOI.

After her body was discovered, she was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the medical staff.

Ivy was generally of a quiet and reserved demeanour, according to the staff of the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Police authorities suspect that she might have been suffering from depression for some time.

However, cops did not find any suicide not from her residence.

A police inquiry has been initiated under an unnatural death case, and her body has been sent for post-mortem.
