A pile of cash was recovered from the residential bungalow of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma during attempts to douse a fire in his house when he was reportedly not at home.

As per a report in The Times of India, when the fire broke out, Justice Varma was not in town, and the police and fire brigade were called by his family members.

The local cops informed the seniors about the accidental recovery, after which the news soon reached the higher-ups.

The Supreme Court Collegium has reportedly decided to transfer Justice Varma from the Delhi High Court to his parent Allahabad High Court on the allegations of recovery of huge cash from his residence.

As Justice Yashwant Varma finds himself amid a burning controversy, here is all you need to know about him

- Justice Varma was born on January 6, 1969. He graduated in Law from Rewa University in 1992.

- He enrolled as an advocate on August 8, 1992, and practised primarily on the Civil side handling cases relating to Constitutional, Industrial Disputes, Corporate, Taxation, Environment and allied branches of Law.

- He was the special counsel for the Allahabad High Court from 2006, after which he was elevated as Additional Judge on October 13, 2014.

- From 2012 to August 2013, he was the Chief Standing Counsel for the State of UP, after which he was designated as Senior Advocate by the Court.

- On February 1, 2016, he took oath as the permanent judge, and was transferred to the Delhi High Court on October 11, 2021.

Meanwhile, a senior lawyer on Friday expressed pain and shock before the Delhi High Court over the alleged recovery of huge cash from the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, who did not hold court today.

The lawyer said he and many others were shaken by the development. Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya shared the emotions, and said "so is everybody. We are conscious".
