Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday categorically ruled out electoral alliance with any party in the forthcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing party workers at Bulandshahr, Priyanka said that the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the BSP had 'surrendered' before the BJP in the state and only the Congress was fighting the saffron party in the streets.
"Many party workers told me that we should go solo in the polls...we have suffered whenever we allied with the other parties in the elections. We have therefore decided not to ally with any one this time," she said.
Priyanka, who was also the in-charge of the state unit, said that the grand old party had chalked out its electoral strategy and would go to the polls with all its might.
"We will contest the polls to defeat the BJP. We will forcefully raise the issues concerning the common people and expose the failures of the BJP government," she added.
Taking a swipe at the BJP for 'belittling' the freedom fighters, Priyanka said that those who did not take part in the freedom struggle, would never appreciate the sacrifices made by thousands of people to attain freedom.
She also attacked the BJP government over rising prices and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The Congress leader said that her party had started the process of selection of candidates for the forthcoming polls in the state.
