In a unique initiative, the Wings Travels Management Pvt. Ltd has launched India’s first-ever empowerment initiative “wings rainbow” that offers employment opportunities to the LGBT community.

Wings rainbow aims to empower and improve the socio-economic indicators of LGBT communities by providing life skills and livelihood opportunities.

Wings travels in association with Humsafar Trust, a community-based organisation that works with the LGBT community, will initiate a pilot skill-development programme to kick-start the programme that will focus on training the LGBT community to drive radio cabs.

The pilot programme will empower five members of the gay and transgender community to apply for learner’s licenses and complete their training in getting a certified all India drivers license.  Wings travels will train and employ these individuals to operate their radio taxi services in Mumbai.

The pilot programme will serve as an experience to further develop the skills-building programme and provide insights to upscale the initiative. Elaborating, Arun Kharat Founder & Director, Wings Travels Management Pvt Ltd said: “It is our endeavor to ensure that the LGBT community in India enjoys the kind of rights and livelihood opportunities in India as they do in the some of the developed nations like the United States of America.”
