The incident, which happened on Friday last, could not be reported as some local goons threatened the mother and daughter with dire consequences if they lodged any complaint with police.
The girl,Sohonara (name changed), class X standard student, was returning home from tuition when a gang of goons pounced on her for having an affair with a married youth who reportedly had a “high status”in the village.
After stripping her, they ordered the girl to parade nude before them. At this, her mother, a wife of a rickshaw puller, tried to save her daughter from the outrage. But to her horror, the goons even forcibly undressed her in full view of villagers, tied her to a tree and then started thrashing the mother for trying to protect her daughter.
All their pleas for being let off fell on deaf years. Their ordeal did not end there; the goons trimmed the hair of the girl who has been preparing to take her Plus Ten examination in February 2011.
When they went to the local police station, the cops refused to register a diary of the incident. Pushed to a corner following persistent demand of the villagers, the cops finally budged and took the complaint.
On the basis of the FIR, a huge posse of police combed the village and arrested four of the accused. Two others are still at large.
