The 31-year old woman was living in a house in Sahyadri apartments at Malad suburb in north west Mumbai with her husband and in-laws. The Sahyadri tower has 21 floors. Her house was on the 9th floor.
She took the extreme step in the morning hours, taking the kids to the 19th floor. From there, she first threw off her 10-year old son Gaurav, then her 3-year old daughter Mahika, and finally jumped off herself, while family members were at home.
All the three died instantaneously. Initially, the police said no suicide note was found, but later claimed to have traced a note in which Nidhi had stated that nobody should be held responsible for the incident. The focus of the probe is on husband Pankaj and and the in-laws. Nidhi allegedly left home saying that she was taking the children to schools. A local gardener James Philip Ghondalvis saw Gupta jumping from the floor and has been made a witness in the case.
