Addressing a rally in Ambala, 50 km from here in support of a Congress candidate, Singh hoped that prices may come down with a good Rabi crop.

He said the government was aware of the strains the common man is going through due to escalating prices and blamed poor monsoon and increasing price of commodities in the global market for the situation.

The government is cracking down on hoarders and operators in black-market to check price hikes as a result of such activities, Singh said.

The issue has become the main focus of the opposition campaign ahead of the October 13 elections in the state. Major parties such as the Indian National Lok Dal led by Om Prakash Chautala have been lashing at the government’s incompetence to tackle the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

A massive media campaign by the INLD depicts the impact of price rise on the common man, asking the voters if they would like to bring back the government that had failed on the issue.
