In order to make a mark on foreign soil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made multiple trips around the world in 2024. As the year comes to an end, let's take a look back at these journeys.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began this year by visiting Bhutan in the month of March.
He went for a two-day State visit to further cement India's unique relations with the Himalayan nation as part of the country's 'Neighbourhood First' Policy.
In June, Modi went to Apulia, southern Italy, to attend the Outreach session of the G7 Summit and hold bilateral talks on a wide range of issues with world leaders.
At the meet, Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reviewed the progress of the bilateral strategic partnership and agreed to strengthen cooperation in global fora and multilateral initiatives, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
In July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Moscow and his summit talks with President Vladimir Putin were "historic and game-changing" considering the turbulent geopolitical environment, Russia's Charge d'affaires Roman Babushkin remarked.
After Moscow, Modi also paid a visit to Austria in order to further deepen their bilateral relationship and closer cooperation on the many geopolitical challenges.
After Russia, Modi went to Ukraine and held talks with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and stressed on the need to engage with each other to find a solution to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia
Prior to his visit to Ukraine, Modi visited Warsaw and held talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Poland aimed to deepen it cooperation with India in the defence industry,
Modi went to Brunei Darussalam where he met Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The visit focused on strengthening India's ties with Brunei. The visit also marked 40 years of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Singapore and India elevated their bilateral ties to a "comprehensive strategic partnership" and signed four MoUs, including on cooperation in semiconductors, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his counterpart Lawrence Wong.
Narendra Modi also visited the United States of America this year and too part in the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, which was hosted by Joe Biden.
At the summit, the leaders reviewed the progress achieved by the Quad over the last one year and set the agenda for the year ahead to assist the countries of the Indo-Pacific region in meeting their development goals and aspirations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Laos and held productive discussions with his Laos counterpart Sonexay Siphandone. These talks aimed at further strengthening the ties between the two countries, including in key sectors like economic and defence.
Modi visited Russia from 22-23 October 2024 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He went attend the 16th BRICS Summit, which was being held in Kazan, under the Chairmanship of Russia.
Modi went to Nigeria at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This visit was the first by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria in 17 years.
Nigeria confered its second-highest national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making him the second foreign dignitary to receive the distinction.
He then went on visit to India Guyana where he agreed to ramp up cooperation in areas of defence, trade, energy, pharmaceutical and agriculture.
Modi then went to Brazil to attend the 19th G20 summit where he met with the Presidents of Brazil, Chile and Argentina and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various areas such as defence, energy, biofuels and agriculture.
In his last foreign visit of 2024, Modi went to Kuwait and was conferred with Kuwait's highest honour - 'The Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer' for his role in strengthening the good relations between the two countries.
