Unidentified assailants on Friday gunned down a gangster on the Barh court premises.

The killing took place when Guddu Singh was coming out of the court. He was facing 18 different cases of murder, loot, extortion and kidnapping.

The four assailants escaped unchallenged after killing the gangster. Two other persons were also injured in the shootout. “It is a major lapse on the part of the police. Prima facie, gang rivalry appears to be the reason behind the killing,” Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said.

This is not the first time that a gangster has been shot dead on the court premises in the state.

In May, gangster Mithilesh Dubey alias Babloo Dubey was shot dead on the court premises in Bettiah. Accused in 36 murder and kidnapping cases, Dubey had been produced in the civil court when two assailants on a motorcycle shot him five times from close range. He died on the spot.

In 2016, a person was killed when a crude bomb kept in a two-wheeler exploded on the premises of the Sasaram court where the bike was parked.
