A three-year-old girl was critically injured in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut when a youth allegedly set off a cracker inside her mouth, according to agency reports.

The incident occurred at the Malik village on Darula road. The girl has been moved to a hospital where she received 50 stitches and is currently fighting a consequent infection.

The girl's father named a local youth, Harpal, saying that he approached the girl, put a 'sulti bomb' inside her mouth and lit the fuse. The sulti bomb is the noisiest firecracker produced in India, with noise exceeding 145 decibels. Harpal is currently at large while the police have filed an FIR against him.
