Actor and former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, was arrested along with others by the Panchkula police in Haryana late on Sunday night following a brawl over parking.

Yograj Singh, who featured in various Punjabi films and also in the recent Bollywood flick “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” as Milkha’s coach, recently underwent treatment for cancer abroad.

According to the police, the clash involved Yograj’s friends and NRI relatives with a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and his family who resides in Sector 2, Panchkula. Yograj and others involved in the episode were produced in the court and granted bail on Monday afternoon.

Both sides filed counter complaints with the police. It is alleged that Yograj and his friend attacked the former DSP and his two sons. Yograj and his friends, too, levelled similar charges and more against the ex-DSP and his sons.

Yograj and his friend Bhupinder Singh, former Chandigarh police DSP Ashanand and his two sons Sumit Nand and Sunil Narang, both advocates, were involved in the clash, it is alleged.

The police said, Bhupinder, who lives opposite to the house occupied by the former DSP in sector 2, had an argument over car parking late on Sunday. The trouble started after Bhupinder returned to his house along with the relatives of Yograj after attending a birthday party in Chandigarh.

The former DSP along with his two sons objected to the manner in which Bhupinder parked his car. Heated arguments followed. Bhupinder soon contacted Yograj on the phone, who reached the house.

Sharp-edged weapons were used in the brawl in which at least three persons sustained minor injuries.
