Bengaluru: Three men, including a father and his son, died in a road accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway on Sunday, police said.
A fourth person is critical and battling for his life in Victorial Hospital, Bengaluru.
The victims were travelling to Bengaluru after attending an event at Madavinakodi in Mandya’s KR Pet taluk.
As their car — a Swift DZire — neared the Jayapura bridge in Ramanagar taluk, the driver lost control while negotiating a turn and crashed into the retaining wall.
The car rolled on the highway multiple times due to the intensity of the collision, killing three men on the spot. The car suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash, the Ramanagar traffic police said.
The victims have been identified as Thammanna Gowda (54), his 27-year-old son Muthuraju Gowda and car driver, Shashank, 26. Their relative, Sanju alias Sachin, 25, suffered critical injuries and has been admitted at Victoria Hospital, Ramanagar police said.
The family was from Chikkanayakanahalli, KR Nagar. Sanju is from KR Pet. Police said Muthuraju and Sanju — both working in Bengaluru — had rented the car to travel to the city.
Police are in the process of recording statements and retrieving CCTV footage of the expressway. The bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem procedures.
