The arrested, Ashraf, operated a paying guest (PG) service for women in Soladevanahalli.

The police said that the woman, in her early 20s and whose identity has been withheld, joined the PG two weeks ago. The FIR seen by DH mentioned that she was a student.

She alleged in her August 2 complaint that on the midnight of August 1, Ashraf took her in his car to a room in a nearby building in the city’s northern outskirts and raped her after asking her to "cooperate" by offering food and accommodation, the FIR noted.

“Based on the woman’s complaint, a case was registered. The suspect was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The woman will undergo a medical test to ascertain the rape. Her statement will also be recorded,” a police officer said.

The officer also said that Ashraf lodged a counter complaint, claiming that he was assaulted by the woman's friends.
