Bengaluru: Two people were arrested by the Halasuru Gate police for allegedly creating fake documents to be used as sureties for the accused involved in criminal cases, officials said on Saturday.
The arrested are Abid Wasim, 46, and Ahmed Zubair, 23, from BTM Layout and Yeshwantpur, respectively.
They have been booked under BNS Sections 318(4) (cheating that involves dishonest inducement to deliver property or create or alter valuable security), 336 (forgery), 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), 341 (offences related to counterfeit seals, plates, or other instruments used for forgery), and 61 (criminal conspiracy).
Bhagavanthray Mashyal, the police sub-inspector, caught the two suspects red-handed on July 4 following a tip-off at Bannappa Park, KG Road.
When their bags were checked, the police found Aadhaar cards, photographs, photocopies of KSRTC payslips, RTC and mutation photocopies, and a seal. When questioned, the suspects confessed that they used the documents to provide fake sureties in court cases and would charge anywhere between Rs 15,000 and Rs 50,000, depending on the clients. “There may be other suspects involved in the racket. Hence, the probe is continuing,” a police officer said.
