The police said that the deceased, Bhaskar (42), had an extramarital affair and rarely visited his house in southern Bengaluru’s Suddaguntepalya.

He came home in an inebriated condition on June 27 and tried to force his 36-year-old wife Shruthi and and their two children, aged 9 and 12, out.

The quarrel got out of hand, and Shruthi retaliated, hitting her husband with a wooden stick. While the couple reconciled and went to bed, Bhaskar died the following morning.

The police opened a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. The post-mortem report came on July 2 and specified that Bhaskar had died as a result of the attack.

The police detained Shruthi for questioning and she admitted to having assaulted him.

"Even she didn’t know that he had died due to the assault. Only when the post-mortem report came out was the truth was revealed," a police officer investigating the case said.
