Traffic on the busy roads of Bangalore can be expected to be managed better with the State government on Tuesday sanctioning three new traffic police stations for the City.

The stations will come up at Jalahalli, Kengeri and Hulimavu.

The traffic police had sought six new traffic police stations, two traffic sub-divisions and a new traffic division for the bustling City.

However, the government has given the nod for three traffic stations.
M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner (Traffic and Security), told Deccan Herald that the new stations were being set up in areas which have high traffic density and less number of cops to man the roads.

The Jalahalli station comes under the North division. The new facility will be carved out of the limits of Yeshwantpur station. Presently, Yeshwantpur, Jalahalli, RMC Yard and Gangammanagudi law and order stations come under the Yeshwantpur station.

The jurisdiction of the Jalahalli traffic station extends to Jalahalli and Gangammanagudi. Soladevanahalli, now under Peenya station, will also be brought under the limits of Jalahalli station.

The Kengeri station falls under the West division. Presently, the limits of Byatarayanapura traffic station extends to a vast area comprising Byatarayanapura, Chandra Layout, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Kengeri law and order stations.

The proposed Kengeri traffic police station will comprise Byatarayanapura, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Kengeri. Mysore Road, a traffic bottleneck, falls under the new station.
“This would ease the pressure on managing the daunting Mysore Road traffic and thus lead to a better management,” Saleem said.

Another proposed station - Hulimavu - comes under the South East division. As of now, the jurisdiction of Mico Layout police station extends to Hulimavu, Mico Layout, Tilak Nagar and JP Nagar.

Hell during peak hours

“It is a huge area for anybody to cover. Moreover, all the areas have high traffic density. Bannerghatta Road and BTM Layout stretch, where most of the IT companies are located, is a hell during peak hours. We are facing a shortage of staff to manage traffic in this large area,” Saleem said.

The proposed Hulimavu station will address the problem. The new station would have Hulimavu and Tilak Nagar in its limits.

However,  the government is yet to notify the jurisdictional limits of the new traffic police stations.

“We expect the process to begin in a month so that we can strategically re-organise for better management of the City traffic at the earliest, ” Saleem added.
