New Delhi: The Centre has granted yet another extension to the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal, allowing it time until July 31, 2026.

The Tribunal was constituted in April 2004, the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal was set up to adjudicate disputes between Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra over the sharing of Krishna River waters.    

The Tribunal’s tenure had previously been extended till July 31, 2025, via a March 2024 notification.   

State unhappy

Expressing unhappiness over extension of tenure, Karnataka said not issuing Gazette notification of final award was a huge set back to the state. Delay in issuing the gazette notification

has led to Karnataka losing out on 200 tmcft or water from Krishna river, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said in a statement. 

 He said for the past 10 years, Karnataka has been demanding the Jal Shakti Ministry to issue Gazette notification of the final award.
